Polly and the Billets Doux Hold Fast Album Review
If you are in a mood for a good mix of country, folk, blues and that Motown soul, you surely do not want to miss Polly and the Billets Doux's new E.P. "Hold Fast". The album coming out 8 May 2012 is a sensational selection of carefully crafted four tracks, that will give your house parties a hot rock and roll make over!
The album is named after its opening track, that translates to "hold on to your hats, cause this ride is going to be fast!". The spicy little number gives the record a spicy kick that lasts in your mind like a pleasant after-taste.
The singer has a beautiful voice - it's very light, melodic and sweet, and it blends in nicely with the upbeat music. The pulsating bass line and edgy guitar riffs contrast with the relaxed, laid back vocal, creating a very easy listening composition.
The very next track on album "Factory Whistle" stays in the same convention as the previous one, not slowing down the pace, yet keeping the audience on their toes. Subtly, yet seductively, the rhythmic music flows from your ears down to your feet like an electric current, forcing you to stand up and give your all in a carefree dance.
After breaking a sweat and dancing to your heart's content you are given a time to unwind and cool down with the "Hymn Song" and "Fortune of War", which constitute beautiful, mesmerising songs, characterised by outstanding vocal harmonies.
The E.P. is short and sweet, jam-packed with quality music and poetic lyrics, leaving a listener craving for more Polly and the Billets Doux.
We will be waiting in anticipation for their newest E.P. and recommend you get your own copy of "Hold Fast"! In the meantime, have a listen to their beautiful live performance of "Do I Ask".
